The Mesilla Valley Balloon Rally began as an extension of the famous Whole Enchilda Fiesta held in Las Cruces, NM in the Fall. In 1991 it split off into a independent event held on the weekend of the Martin Luther King holiday each January. It features 2 morning launches , a hot air balloon glow, and tethered rides for the public. Launch Directors at this rally are know as Penguins due to their traditional attire of full dress tuxedos. The rally is funded by Wells Fargo Bank , 101 Gold FM Radio, and local business sponsorships. Attendance free and open to the public

Brown Farm Field is located in Dona Ana County, north of the City of Las Cruces, NM, at the intersection of El Camino Real and Armstrong Rd.
